Getting Started
No referral is needed for most patients. Most insurance plans allow you to be seen for up to 10 visits or one month without a physician referral. The one exception is Medicare, when a prescription or referral for physical therapy demonstrates medical necessity for your treatment.
We are located at 333 E 56th Street, New York, NY 10022 — between First and Second Avenues in Midtown East Manhattan. Our offices are open Monday through Saturday. We also offer telehealth appointments for eligible patients.
You can call us at (212) 317-1600, text us at 917-680-5604, or email us at sppt333@gmail.com. You can also book online through our website or via Zocdoc.
Yes. English and Spanish are spoken in our offices, so Spanish-speaking patients are warmly welcome.
Insurance & Payment
We do not participate with any insurance plans as an in-network provider. That allows us to give you all your care one-on-one with your physical therapist, customize your care and help you get better in fewer total visits. We will provide you with everything you need to submit for any out-of-network benefits. Most patients find the overall cost is comparable or even less once you factor in fewer visits and faster progress. Please call our office directly learn more about the Sutton Place Physical and Aquatic Therapy difference!.
Yes, we do accept traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans that provide out-of-network PPO benefits. Please note that Medicare requires a physician referral (prescription) before physical therapy treatment can begin, unlike most other insurance plans.
We work with out-of-network and PPO plans. We encourage you to call our office so we can verify your specific benefits and help you understand your coverage before your first visit.

We also offer fall prevention programs and pediatric aquatic physical therapy.
Our land-based services include manual therapy, balance training, Pilates, pelvic floor biofeedback, cervical traction, electric stimulation, low-level laser, ultrasound, TENS, Kinesio Taping, RockBlades, Rehabilitative Ultrasound Imaging (RUSI), cupping, and more. We also have our own full-size private pool with a lift for one-on-one aquatic therapy sessions.
Yes. We offer telehealth physical therapy for patients who are unable to come in person or who prefer a virtual option. Contact us to find out whether telehealth is appropriate for your specific needs.
All sessions — both land-based and aquatic — are individualized. We do not offer group sessions. You will always work directly with your own dedicated physical therapist.
Aquatic Therapy
No. Most therapy takes place in the shallow end where you can stand, sit, or use a flotation device. You will never be required to put your head underwater. Your therapist will provide hands-on guidance throughout the session.
Sessions are approximately 45 minutes. About 40 of those minutes are spent working directly with your therapist, and the remaining 5-10 minutes are for free exercise time or work with an assistant.
A bathing suit is the simplest option, but shorts and a t-shirt or other lightweight clothing you don't mind getting wet also work. Some clients wear a wetsuit. Water shoes are required on the pool deck — we sell them in the office or you can order them online. Flip-flops are not permitted.
We have a seated pool lift that can safely lower patients weighing up to 300 pounds. There are also four ladders available for those who can manage them independently.
Yes. There is a locker room for changing and a shower on the pool deck. If you need assistance changing or showering, please arrange for a caregiver or companion to accompany you.
Yes, once your surgeon has cleared you and your incision is fully closed, you can participate in aquatic therapy. It is an excellent complement to post-surgical rehabilitation for procedures such as joint replacements, ACL reconstruction, spinal surgery, and more.
Insurance does reimburse for aquatic physical therapy, but a prescription from your doctor is required. A land-based evaluation will also be conducted before your first pool session to determine your specific needs and goals.
